Overview
A unique 4X4 adventure on the mountainous, provincial road that climbs the eastern slopes of Psiloritis and offers incredible views of Heraklion and the Cretan Sea. We will explore gorgeous trails that run parallel to deep gorges and picturesque plateaus with thousands of pear and apple trees scattered all over. If you visit it in the spring, you will see them in bloom. The dirt road will lead us to the location "Vromonero", where we enjoy for a picnic, with Cretan products, in the shade of oak trees. After enjoying the picnic, we continue our off-road route to the plateau of Nida, where we will visit Idaion Andron, the cave where Zeus was raised. In a working mitato, a stone – built hut where shepherds spend the 8 months of more favorable weather, for their free range goats and lambs to graze on fresh grass on the arid slopes of the mountains, we will be hosted for an exclusive experience, a delicious meal prepared only for us! Seasonal salads, strong cheeses and the divine “antikristo” slow roasting against an open fire - perhaps the most iconic meat dish of Crete! Local desserts and strong greek coffee will be offered on the main square of Anoyia, one of the most famous villages in Crete for the untamed nature of its’ people and respect to the isle’s traditions. Many of the local women in the village make a living working on traditional looms and we will have time to browse their workshops.
